Our scope

What healthcare cleaning covers

Healthcare cleaning is the specialist cleaning of hospitals, clinics, care homes and other healthcare premises to infection prevention and control (IPC) standards. We clean wards, theatres, clinical rooms, sanitary areas and the high-touch points that carry healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) such as MRSA and C. difficile.

We work in line with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025, cleaning each area to its functional risk category, FR1 to FR6. Our healthcare cleaning services cover deep cleans, terminal cleans when an infectious patient leaves a room, and decontamination after an outbreak such as norovirus.

We help you meet regulation 15, the premises cleanliness regulation the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspects. We keep a dated record of every clean for your cleanliness audits.

We work for estates and facilities managers, IPC leads, practice managers and NHS procurement teams, from a single GP surgery to a full hospital estate.

Our operatives are IPC trained and DBS checked. We hold ISO 9001, certified through a UKAS-accredited body, plus SafeContractor and Constructionline Gold.

Why it matters

What goes wrong when healthcare cleaning isn't done right

Bed rails and commodes missed in a terminal clean can pass infections to the next patient

Using the same cloth from bed to bed can spread infection around the whole bay

Norovirus left on trolleys and keyboards after an outbreak can keep beds closed for longer

Poor cleaning audit results can count against you at a CQC inspection

Methods and capability

How we clean healthcare premises

Our teams are highly experienced in the methods required to clean healthcare premises. From choosing the disinfectant and colour-coded equipment for each area, through to terminal cleans of isolation rooms and bays after an outbreak.

Equipment and materials

Colour-coded microfibre cloths, mops and buckets, to the national colour coding scheme

Single-use cloths and mop heads for isolation rooms and clinical areas

Detergents to lift dirt and grease before disinfection

Chlorine-based disinfectants, including Disifin, for sanitary areas and terminal cleans

Sporicidal disinfectants for Clostridioides difficile

Steam cleaners to clean hard surfaces with heat instead of chemicals

HEPA-filtered vacuums for fine dust

How we clean it

Each area cleaned in line with its functional risk category

Detergent first to lift the soil, then disinfectant wherever there is an infection risk

Every disinfectant left on the surface for its full contact time

High-touch points cleaned and disinfected, including bed rails, door handles, light switches and call buttons

Toilets, washrooms and sluices cleaned and disinfected with their own colour-coded equipment

Terminal cleans of isolation rooms and bays once the patient has left, and decontamination after an outbreak

Clinical waste bagged and segregated in line with HTM 07-01, ready for collection

Controls and records

Risk assessments and method statements issued before we start

A written cleaning specification for every area

Cleaning to your infection prevention and control policies

COSHH assessments and current safety data sheets for every cleaning product we use

Gloves, aprons and other PPE for every task

ATP swab results, where required

A dated cleaning log, with before and after photographs

IPC-trained, DBS-checked operatives

How we prove it

Standards, regulations and accreditations

These are the regulations, standards and schemes that govern healthcare cleaning, and what we do for each one.

NSHC 2025 and the NIPCM

The National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness (NSHC) 2025 set how often each area of an NHS trust site is cleaned and audited by its functional risk category, and the National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM) sets the infection control precautions, including how rooms are decontaminated. We plan each clean by risk category and clean in line with the manual.

CQC regulation 15

Regulation 15 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 requires a registered provider's premises and equipment to be clean, and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) enforces it in England. We help hospitals, practices and care homes meet it with a dated record of every clean.

The IPC Code of Practice

Criterion 2 of the Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections requires registered providers to keep a clean environment that supports infection prevention and control (IPC). Our IPC-trained operatives clean to your IPC policies with colour-coded, single-use materials.

HTM 07-01 and HTM 03-01

Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) are the NHS technical guidance for healthcare premises. HTM 07-01 sets how healthcare waste is segregated and HTM 03-01 covers specialised ventilation, so we bag and segregate clinical waste in line with HTM 07-01, and our ventilation team cleans specialised ventilation in line with HTM 03-01.

COSHH 2002

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 require exposure to hazardous substances, from disinfectants to blood and body fluids, to be controlled. We assess every cleaning product we use before it reaches site, and give our operatives the training and PPE to handle it.

ISO 9001 and SSIP

ISO 9001 is the international standard for quality management, and SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement) recognises a contractor's health and safety pre-qualification. We are ISO 9001 certified through a body accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), hold SSIP recognition through Constructionline Gold and Avetta, and are SafeContractor approved.

How we do it

How your healthcare clean will run

From the initial survey and quotation through to cleaning, inspection and sign-off, we manage each stage of the healthcare clean with your site team.

01

Survey, scope and quote

We review the areas, their risk categories and your IPC policies, carrying out a site survey where needed. We then provide a written scope of works and quotation, clearly setting out the areas included.

02

Planning and RAMS

Once the works are agreed, we plan the clean around your site. Risk assessments and method statements set out the access requirements, working hours and controls required to complete the work safely.

03

Healthcare cleaning

We clean each area to its risk category, with its own colour-coded equipment, working to the agreed programme.

04

Verification and reporting

Once cleaning is complete, we check each area with your site contact for sign-off, then hand over the cleaning log with before and after photographs for your files.
