Trapped Heat, Failed Systems
Fire dampers are designed to shut and stop flames from moving through ductwork during a fire. If they’re jammed, rusted, or never tested, they won’t do that job when it counts. We carry out full inspections and drop tests to make sure your system is compliant and working properly.
This service is for commercial buildings only and is carried out by trained engineers in line with current British Standards.

Dropped Panels and Jammed Blades
Common issues we find during testing include:
Dampers seized in the open position
Trigger mechanisms failing to release
Missing or damaged fusible links
Dampers blocked by insulation or internal build-up
No access to test or inspect the damper at all
If we find a problem, we report it clearly and flag any access or repair needs right away.

BS 9999 and What It Means for You
BS 9999 is the British Standard that covers fire safety in the design, management and use of buildings. It sets the expectation that all fire dampers should be tested and maintained at regular intervals, with annual testing being the baseline for most systems.
If you’re responsible for a commercial building, this standard applies to you. It doesn’t just cover installation. It requires regular drop testing, proper access for inspection, and clear documentation to prove it’s being done.
No test record means non-compliance. If you can’t show that your dampers work, it’s as good as showing they don’t. We help make sure that’s never the case.

Our Testing Process
Site Survey and Access Check
We review duct layouts, damper locations and existing access. If hatches are missing, we can arrange for them to be installed.
Manual Drop Testing
We test each fire damper to confirm it closes fully and resets correctly. This includes cleaning and freeing seized mechanisms if required.
Fusible Link Checks
We check the link is correctly fitted and not damaged or corroded. Links are replaced if they fail during testing.
Log and Report
You receive a report with test results, damper locations, photos, and any faults or access issues clearly marked.
Ongoing Testing Plans
We can help set up a scheduled testing plan in line with BS 9999 or your own fire safety policy.
